What is the cost of the PMP exam
Getting a PMP credential is not a cheap tasks and of course is not easy one though. There are many other costs that aspiring PMPs and businesses too often don’t take into consideration.
1.The Exam Fee
The exam fee is
- Members- US$405
- Non-members- US$555
PMI allows PMP® aspirants to take up to 3 attempts in one year eligibility period. The retake exam cost incase unable to clear in the first attempt will
- Members- US$275
- Non-members- US$375
2. PMI Membership
Becoming a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) can will save US$140 in the exam fee. But the membership’s fee is of $129 and a joining fee of $10.
This make the total cost to be US$544.
So there is a net benefit of US$11.
3. Training Costs
You can choose from instructor-led class-room program or on-line-live/recorded/selfpaced program.
In India, the training cost for class room program will be around US$150- 250
In US and Europe the training cost will be anywhere from US$1800- 2800
In Middle-East, it will be ranging from US$ 500- 1800
The Online program will cost much lesser than US$100 depending on the value add.
4. Additional Study
One need to refer to standard reference books on PMP which adds to the cost further. You just cannot rely on the study guide or program workbook given by the training provider.
These reference books will cost around US$100-150
E-Copies or the soft copies are available at much less price but it will be scary to think to read volume of content on screen. Just not going to happen.
5. Practice Simulations (Mock Exams)
Generally, most of the training providers will provide you with 3-4 practice simulations. But there are many junk/free practice simulations available online, which are just useless as the authenticity will be point of concern. There is not point in referring to all free stuff and finally compromise on the Exam cost and run a risk of loosing that money.
But generally paid versions are available ranging from US$20-200.
Hmm…there is lot of cost, needless to mention, the benefits weighed against the PMP Exam Cost.
