What is the eligibility of PMP exam

To be eligible for take the PMP certification exam, you need to meet certain educational and professional requirements.

All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission. Many professionals who have experience in leading and directing projects, but not necessarily in managerial roles are eligible , but even in functional roles are also eligible. Professionals from non-technical roles like marketing, advertising, manufacturing, event management, etc. also take up the PMP exam and attain it.

PMP experience and education requirements are as follows:

  • Secondary Degree Holders- 35 contact hours, 5 years, 7500 hours of project experience
  • Bachelors Degree Holders- 35 contact hours, 3 years, 4500 hours of project experience

PMP Education Requirement

In order to apply for PMP certification, you need to have at least a secondary degree, for instance a high school or equivalent education level. If your highest attended education level is secondary degree, in order to apply for PMP certification, you need to satisfy following three PMP certification requirements.

Importantly, project management experience requirements does not mean regular and active management of any project. Any contribution to any project will count as experience.

Also, you need not be a project manager to be eligible for this exam. Any leading or directing or managing roles will do, like, team lead, supervisor, associate project manager, consultant, project vendor, project manager etc.
